Photoshop CS6: Original Filter Menu

By default, you may or may not see all the filters available in Photoshop CS6. Let’s bring them all back in the Preferences.

In Windows, go to Edit > Preferences > Plug-Ins

Mac: Photoshop > Preferences > Plug-Ins

Be sure “Show all Filter Gallery groups and names” is checked. Click OK.

You should now have all the original filters in Photoshop!

Sony Vegas: Quickly Resize Window for Current Plug-in

Occasionally, you may want to re-size the plug-in window in order to fit all the plug-in settings on the screen at once. Double-click the Title Bar to re-size the window for the current plug-in. Remember you can hold Ctrl to prevent the window from docking when you’re re-positioning it.

Sony Vegas: Timeline Position

If you prefer to work with the timeline at the top on the main window in Sony Vegas, go to Options > Preferences. In the Display tab, un-check “Display timeline at bottom of main window”. Click Apply > OK. Your timeline will now appear at the top of the main window. If you’d like your timeline to be at the bottom of the main window, simply do the opposite by Checking “Display timeline at bottom of main window” in the Preferences.

Sony Vegas: Match Media Settings

In the Vegas Pro Project Properties window, you can automatically match the settings of any media file. To do this, simply click the Match Media Settings button in the Project Properties Window. You must then choose which file you’d like to match and click Open. Your Project Properties should now match the properties from the selected media file.

Sony Vegas: Sync Cursor

While animating keyframes in Sony Vegas, you can synchronize the cursor positions on the main timeline and Keyframe Controller timeline. To do this, simply select the Sync Cursor button. If you move the cursor in either window, it’ll automatically position itself in both timelines. Select it again, to turn it off.

Sony Vegas: Manage Window Layouts

Do you have a particular layout you like working with in Sony Vegas? Did you know you can save those layouts and come back to them later? Feel free to move all the windows around to your liking and go to View > Window Layouts > Save Layout As and give it a name. Once saved, you can come back to any layout by going to View > Window Layouts and choosing your saved layout or using the assigned shortcut key. This is especially useful when you use different layouts for video editing, sound editing or even color correcting.

You can always go back to the default layout by going to View > Window Layouts > Default Layout.

Sony Vegas: Override Window Docking

When moving dialogue windows around in Sony Vegas, they start docking in place. Overtime, this may get frustrating because the window isn’t positioning exactly where you want it to go. To stop this behavior from happening, hold Ctrl while dragging the window. It will move freely and no longer dock in place.
