Sony Vegas: Duplicate Timeline Events

Quickly duplicate any timeline events in Sony Vegas by holding Ctrl while dragging the media over to your target position. To duplicate multiple events at once, select them all and Ctrl — drag them to your target position. Once you let go, you’ll have an exact copy of those events.

Sony Vegas: Adding Only Video/Audio to Timeline

You can choose to only add audio or video to your timeline in Sony Vegas. Simply Right-Click and Drag the files to the timeline. Once you let go, a shortcut menu will display. From here, you can choose Audio Only or Video Only and select how you want them imported. Add Across Time will add the media files end-to-end on the track where you drop them. Add Across Tracks will drop the events on their own individual tracks. Add As Takes adds the media files as multiple takes of the same event.

Sony Vegas: Fit Project in Timeline

To fit your entire project within the Timeline window, Double-Click the Horizontal and Vertical Scroll Bars. Double-Clicking the Vertical scroll bar will zoom the project out so as many tracks possible will be displayed. Double-Clicking the Horizontal scroll bar will zoom out so that the entire length of the project will display.

Sony Vegas: Timeline Position

If you prefer to work with the timeline at the top on the main window in Sony Vegas, go to Options > Preferences. In the Display tab, un-check “Display timeline at bottom of main window”. Click Apply > OK. Your timeline will now appear at the top of the main window. If you’d like your timeline to be at the bottom of the main window, simply do the opposite by Checking “Display timeline at bottom of main window” in the Preferences.

Sony Vegas: Revert to Default Window Layout

Ever accidentally close out of a vital window you need to edit with in Sony Vegas? I get asked frequently how to get certain windows back such as the Preview Window or Project Media Window. To Revert back to the Default Window Layout, Go to View > Window Layouts > Default Layout (Alt+D, D). Everything should now be back to normal.

Sony Vegas: Remove Unused Media

Cluttered Project Media window? Need to clean house? Click the Remove All Unused Media from Project button to remove all media that have not been used in the timeline.
