What better to celebrate New Years than a fireworks show! In today’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to create some abstract fireworks in Adobe After Effects for use in your video projects. You can even refer to my AE Snow tutorial here to save this pre-keyed for use in any of your preferred video editors. Heck, I’ll even include the project files which you can download below! Lets get started!

Assuming you already have After Effects open, lets create a new Composition. Composition > New Composition or Ctrl-N. In the Composition Settings, lets set the preset to HDTV 1080 29.97. This way our fireworks will be in 1920x1080px aspect ratio with a frame rate of 29.97. I’m going to make the duration 5 seconds (0;00;05;00) but of course you use whatever you need for you particular project. Click OK.

With our new composition, lets create a new Solid. Go to Layer > New > Solid. In the Solid Settings dialogue window, lets click on Make Comp Size just to make sure it’s the same size as our composition. We can name it, “Fireworks” and Click OK.

In this method, we’ll be making the fireworks with one of After Effects’ built in Effects & Presets. So, with your Fireworks solid selected choose Effect > Simulation > CC Particle Systems II.

If you scrub through the timeline, you’ll see the particles showering down kind of like welding sparks. We’re going to need to adjust some settings to turn this into fireworks.

Lets go ahead and dive right into the Physics settings for the CC Particle Systems II effect. Turn off the gravity somewhat, around 0.2 works here.

Now to add some Resistance to our fireworks, turn it up to 10.0.

Now if you scrub through, it’ll look more like fireworks but is non stop. We’re actually going to have to animate the Birth Rate. Make sure you’re positioned at the beginning of the timeline at 0;00;00;00.

Click the stopwatch next to Birth Rate to turn on keyframes and activate the animation.

In this position, set the Birth Rate to 30.0 or 40.0.

Move up about 2 to 3 frames in your timeline and set the birth rate to 0.0.

Scrub through and look at that! A Firework!

Well, if you want the firework to be yellow, you’re done. If you want to change the color. Go to Particle in the settings and change the Birth Color and Death Color to whatever you want.

You can then duplicate the “Fireworks” layer (Ctrl-D), and change the color and position in the Producer as well as move it around in the sequence you want in the timeline.

Render it out and use it in your video! Again, if you want to render this out pre-keyed, I recommend watching near the end of this video here.

Of course, if you have or ever used Trapcode Particular, you can get these to look pretty realistic! But since I love effects that can be done in AE alone, I thought I would share this.

In this tutorial, I show you how to spell check in Photoshop CS5.

Dialogue box options/buttons:

DONE = This tells Photoshop you have finished checking the document and are ready to close the spell checker.

IGNORE = Ignore the active word

IGNORE ALL = Ignore all instances of the active word

CHANGE = Replace the active word with the suggested one.

CHANGE ALL = Replace all instances of the active word with the suggested one.

ADD = If the active word is indeed a correct spelling (it could be a name you’re planning to use again or a word just not included in the active dictionary) then this will add it to the active dictionary and accept it as a correct spelling.

Adobe has recently announced Creative Suite 5.5 along with 3 companion apps that work right out of the box for Photoshop CS5 (version 12.1.0) that help allow your creativity go mobile. With the launch of this upgrade, comes a new twist to Photoshop.

The first of the three apps is called, “Adobe Nav for Photoshop”. This allows you to tap and swipe your iPad screen to activate Photoshop tools, browse open documents and more.

Adobe Eazel for Photoshop allows you to use your iPad canvas to create beautiful paintings, mixing and blending colors with wet and dry paint and access them with Photoshop.

Finally, Adobe Color Lava for Photoshop allows you to actually use your finger tips to mix colors on the iPad like a painters palette in which you could create custom color themes and swatches.

The best part, these apps all utilize your WiFi connection to connect to the actual Photoshop software on your computer. This enables the ability for you to use your iPad as a remote to Photoshop’s many tools as well as being able to create custom colors and setting them in Photoshop and even the ability to transfer all your paintings created in Color Lava to Photoshop. For users using Photoshop CS5 (version 12.0 comes with CS5), there’s a free update to version 12.0.4 which is required to connect these companion apps with Photoshop. These Photoshop touch apps will be available through the Apple Apps Store right now!

I’m giving away a free censor beep sound effect for everyone to use on there next video with violence. I got tired of looking all over the internet for a simple beep sound effect online, so I decided to recreate the sound in Audacity and give it away for free.

The reason why there are different audio lengths to choose from is because the sound becomes choppy when you loop it. This sound should be the same one they use on TV.

To create this same sound in Audacity, all you have to do is Go up to “Generate” in the menu bar and click “Tone” then, where it says “Frequency/Hz” type in the number “1000” then click “Generate Tone”. You can also watch the tutorial on how to make it in Audacity by clicking the link below.
