Adding lens flares to transitions in video can really help make your video look more professional and set the mood for your scene. Recently, I got a chance to review Rody’s Lens FX and Lens FX Fantasy from RodyPolis.com. These are great stock footage lens flares that can not only be used in Sony Vegas but just about any other editing program. Coming in at around $20 bucks each pack or about $35 for the bundle, it’s perfect for those on a low budget. Of course, there are always FREE alternatives to just about everything and you may even be able to make these yourself in a program like Adobe After Effects or Sony Vegas but you may not always have the time.

Lets take a look at how simple it is to add these lens flare transitions in Sony Vegas Pro 11.

Check out RodyPolis.com Products

It’s easy to find free alternatives. Just do a simple YouTube or Google search for free lens flare downloads. You should be able to find some usable stuff.

One technique often used is transitioning from one clip to another by playing the audio from the second clip before the video shows. Similarly, sometimes you want to cut to the next video visually before the viewer can hear the audio. These are called, “J-cuts and L-Cuts”. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to add J-cuts and L-cuts in Sony Vegas Pro 10.
