Sony Vegas: Automatic Project Saving

If you ever had an issue with your system which caused Sony Vegas to crash, you’ve probably already used the Automatic Project Saving feature. This feature automatically saves your project in a Temporary files folder every 5 minutes. If and when your system crashes, you will be prompted to open the backup file next time you start Sony Vegas. You can select which folder the Temporary files are saved to in the General Tab of the Preferences. Auto saved files are then deleted upon saving and exiting the application.

To enable/disable auto save, un-tick or tick the option, “Enable autosave” in the General Tab of the Preferences.

Sony Vegas: Change Display Colors

In today’s tip, you’ll learn how to change display colors in Sony Vegas Pro 11. You may not always like a particular color being used for tracks in Vegas or you might even want a whole new color scheme overall. Vegas Pro gives you the options to adjust Track colors, Envelope colors, Snap colors as well as the intensity of the icons in the track header. I’ll cover how you can go about changing those to your specific needs.

Adjusting colors is easy. Simply go to Options > Preferences.

In the Display Tab, you’ll find all the color adjustment settings. From here, you can go about changing Track colors, Envelope colors, Snap colors as well as the intensity of the icons in the track header.

For example, lets say I wanted to change the snap color of the Cursor. Right now, it’s Yellow.

Under the Snap Color options — Cursor, I’ll simply change that color to Red.

Now whenever I snap to the Cursor or Play Head, the color will be Red.

Go ahead, try it out yourself! If you need to change everything back to Default settings, simply click Default All. Default colors will return.

Sony Vegas: Timeline Position

If you prefer to work with the timeline at the top on the main window in Sony Vegas, go to Options > Preferences. In the Display tab, un-check “Display timeline at bottom of main window”. Click Apply > OK. Your timeline will now appear at the top of the main window. If you’d like your timeline to be at the bottom of the main window, simply do the opposite by Checking “Display timeline at bottom of main window” in the Preferences.

Photoshop Error: Could Not Open Scratch File

Ever experience this error? You make some changes in the Photoshop preferences, close out and when you try opening it again, you get the error, “Could not open a scratch file because the file is locked…”

This is a very simple fix. All you need to do is open Photoshop and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift while it’s starting up. You’ll then get another window asking, “Delete the Adobe Photoshop settings file?” Click, “Yes”. This will in turn, delete the Photoshop settings file and will allow it to open.
