<p>Ever wonder how to get that phone call voice effect like we&#8217;ve all heard in TV shows and movies? This can be done in Premiere quite easily with the Highpass and Lowpass audio filters.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings.png" data-rel="lightbox-image-0" data-rl_title="" data-rl_caption="" title=""><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-8953 size-full" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings.png" alt="Effect Control Settings" width="861" height="537" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings.png 861w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings-300x187.png 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings-329x205.png 329w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings-768x479.png 768w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings-100x62.png 100w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings-700x437.png 700w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/phone-effect-control-settings-600x374.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 861px) 100vw, 861px" /></a></p>
<h2>Step 1</h2>
<p>Add both the Highpass and Lowpass filter effects to your audio clip. Both can be found in the Effects Panel.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/highpass-lowpass-effects-panel.jpg" data-rel="lightbox-image-1" data-rl_title="" data-rl_caption="" title=""><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-8961 size-full" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/highpass-lowpass-effects-panel.jpg" alt="Effects Panel" width="553" height="281" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/highpass-lowpass-effects-panel.jpg 553w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/highpass-lowpass-effects-panel-300x152.jpg 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/highpass-lowpass-effects-panel-364x185.jpg 364w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/highpass-lowpass-effects-panel-100x51.jpg 100w" sizes="(max-width: 553px) 100vw, 553px" /></a></p>
<h2>Step 2</h2>
<p>Set the Highpass Cutoff between <code>400.0Hz - 700.0Hz</code>.</p>
<h2>Step 3</h2>
<p>Set the Lowpass Cutoff to <code>4000.0Hz</code>.<a href="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/hilopass-settings.png" data-rel="lightbox-image-2" data-rl_title="" data-rl_caption="" title=""><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-8962 size-full" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/hilopass-settings.png" alt="Effect Control Audio Settings" width="685" height="219" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/hilopass-settings.png 685w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/hilopass-settings-300x96.png 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/hilopass-settings-364x116.png 364w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/hilopass-settings-100x32.png 100w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/hilopass-settings-600x192.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 685px) 100vw, 685px" /></a></p>
<h2>Step 4</h2>
<p>Adjust as necessary.⁣</p>
<p>That&#8217;s all there is to it! Now you can make it sound like they&#8217;re truly on the other line.</p>
<h2>So what do these filters do exactly?</h2>
<p><strong>Highpass</strong><br />
The Highpass effect removes frequencies below the specified Cutoff frequency. Therefore, giving you a more high pitched tinny sound.</p>
<p><strong>Lowpass</strong><br />
The Lowpass effect removes frequencies above the specified Cutoff frequency giving you a more muffled sound.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/sv-emptyeventanim.gif" data-rel="lightbox-image-0" data-rl_title="" data-rl_caption=""><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class=" wp-image-5073 aligncenter" title="" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/sv-emptyeventanim.gif" alt="" width="580" height="326" /></a></p>
<p>In the screenshot above, the shortcut key &#8220;<strong>S</strong>&#8221; was used to slice the video and insert an empty event with <strong>Auto Ripple (Ctrl+L)</strong> turned <strong>on.</strong></p>

Have you ever heard someone thinking to themselves in a movie or TV show? Their voice tends to have some kind of echo while they&#8217;re speaking. In today&#8217;s Sony Vegas tutorial, we&#8217;ll be taking a look at how to make audio echo as if the person or in this case, animal is thinking to themselves.</p>
<p><strong>TUTORIAL:</strong></p>
<p><strong></strong><span style="text-align: center;">Assuming you already have some footage in your timeline, let&#8217;s take a look at making it sound like the dog is thinking.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4532" title="Footage in Timeline" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline.jpg" alt="" width="620" height="264" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline.jpg 620w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline-300x128.jpg 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline-561x239.jpg 561w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline-364x156.jpg 364w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline-608x259.jpg 608w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline-113x48.jpg 113w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline-225x96.jpg 225w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline-313x133.jpg 313w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/footageintimeline-1-600x255.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" /></p>
<p>First, let&#8217;s record what she says. Start off by <strong>arming the audio track</strong> for record as we will be recording our own voice on an audio track straight in Vegas Pro. You may want to come up with a general idea of what you&#8217;re going to say or write a script as it&#8217;s easier. I just winged it here and luckily, it sounded pretty good.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4530" title="Arm Record Track" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord.jpg" alt="" width="625" height="265" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord.jpg 625w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord-300x127.jpg 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord-561x238.jpg 561w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord-364x154.jpg 364w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord-608x258.jpg 608w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord-113x48.jpg 113w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord-226x96.jpg 226w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord-313x133.jpg 313w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/armrecord-1-600x254.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px" /></p>
<p>Once you know what you&#8217;re going to say, you&#8217;re ready to record. <strong>Click Record</strong> down in the Transport bar.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4533" title="Record Button" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton.jpg" alt="" width="601" height="290" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton.jpg 601w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton-300x145.jpg 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton-561x271.jpg 561w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton-364x176.jpg 364w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton-99x48.jpg 99w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton-199x96.jpg 199w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton-313x151.jpg 313w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordbutton-1-600x290.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px" /></p>
<p>You&#8217;ll get a Project Recorded Files Folder diologe window asking where you want to save your recorded files. Be sure everything&#8217;s set up where you want them to go and <strong>click OK</strong>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4537" title="Recorded Files Folder" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/savewindow.png" alt="" width="331" height="184" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/savewindow.png 331w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/savewindow-235x132.png 235w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/savewindow-300x167.png 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/savewindow-192x108.png 192w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/savewindow-86x48.png 86w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/savewindow-173x96.png 173w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/savewindow-313x174.png 313w" sizes="(max-width: 331px) 100vw, 331px" /></p>
<p>You may now begin speaking into your mic and record what you want the person or animal to be thinking.</p>
<p>When finished, click the <strong>record</strong> or <strong>stop</strong> button to <strong>stop recording</strong>.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ll then get a Recorded Files diologue window showing your recorded files. You can either Delete or Rename files. If you&#8217;d prefer not to have this window pop-up in the future, simply tick the option to, &#8220;Show after every recording session&#8221; off. Click Done.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4534" title="Recorded Files" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin.png" alt="" width="354" height="267" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin.png 354w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin-300x226.png 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin-192x144.png 192w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin-90x68.png 90w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin-180x135.png 180w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin-64x48.png 64w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin-127x96.png 127w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin-313x236.png 313w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/recordedfileswin-320x240.png 320w" sizes="(max-width: 354px) 100vw, 354px" /></p>
<p>Now, we&#8217;re ready to add the FX. You can either add them to each audio clip under Event FX or to the entire Track which is what I&#8217;m going to do. <strong>Click Track FX</strong> found in the Timeline Header for the appropriate audio track. You&#8217;ll now see an Audio Track FX window. Be sure to see this handy Tip of the Day on how to <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><a title="Sony Vegas: Override Window Docking" href="https://www.robertsproductions.net/sony-vegas-override-window-docking/" target="_blank">Override Window Docking in Sony Vegas</a></span> in case you want to move this window around without it docking.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4531" title="Audio Track FX" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx.png" alt="" width="603" height="480" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx.png 603w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx-300x239.png 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx-561x447.png 561w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx-364x290.png 364w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx-60x48.png 60w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx-121x96.png 121w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx-313x249.png 313w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/audiotrackfx-600x478.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px" /></p>
<p>In the <strong>Audio Track FX window</strong>, click the<strong> Plug-in Chain</strong> icon to reveal more effects you can add. With <strong>All</strong> selected in the folder area, choose <strong>Reverb</strong>. Either <strong>double-click</strong> it and click <strong>OK</strong> or click it once, then click<strong> Add</strong> and click <strong>OK</strong>, your choice.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-4535" title="Add Reverb Effect" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx.png" alt="" width="733" height="419" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx.png 916w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-300x172.png 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-768x439.png 768w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-561x321.png 561w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-364x208.png 364w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-758x434.png 758w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-608x348.png 608w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-84x48.png 84w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-168x96.png 168w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-313x179.png 313w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbfx-600x343.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 733px) 100vw, 733px" /></p>
<p>I found that the <strong>Bright hall preset</strong> seems to work well in this case. Click the Preset down-arrow and choose <strong>[Sys] Bright hall</strong>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4536" title="Reverb Settings" src="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings.png" alt="" width="603" height="480" srcset="https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings.png 603w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings-300x239.png 300w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings-561x447.png 561w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings-364x290.png 364w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings-60x48.png 60w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings-121x96.png 121w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings-313x249.png 313w, https://www.robertsproductions.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/reverbsettings-600x478.png 600w" sizes="(max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px" /></p>
<p>However, I changed the <strong>Reverb </strong>out to<strong> -30.5 dB</strong>. You&#8217;re free to play around with these options to familiarize yourself with them and get the best output for your project.</p>
<p><iframe title="Thoughts" width="719" height="404" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8Yp7416TTSw?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>That&#8217;s it! Close out of the Audio Track FX and see how it sounds. You should find it sounds pretty good for those times someone&#8217;s thinking to themselves in a video.</p>
